Legal Advice and Services
Hiring an attorney does not need to be "all or nothing." Most of my clients take on part of the tasks of their case, and use me on an as-needed basis. This saves you money and gives you ownership over your case.
I specialize in out-of-court resolution, also called Consensual Dispute Resolution. I help you reach agreements yourselves, without a judge intervening or telling you how to live your life. Consensual dispute resolution works well when everyone involved is reasonable and willing to take into consideration both their own needs and the other person's needs. No need to know the solution ahead of time or to be best friends! Many couples who are not initially on the same page, and even couples who are at odds and angry and hurt, are able to reach agreements without court intervention. And - the agreements you reach yourself can be made just as binding and final as if a judge had ordered it.
That said - sometimes it is necessary to ask for the assistance of a judge, and if so, I can refer you to litigating attorneys.
Below are examples of the assistance I can provide you:
• Legal Guidance: an overview of the relevant law; advice on legal procedure or filling out forms; practical tips
• Coaching: advice on negotiating with your ex-partner so that you can reach agreement and move forward
• Mediation Coaching/Consulting Attorney: guidance on how to prepare for a mediation session to make the best use of the mediation
• Writing and reviewing documents: I regularly write or review Marital Settlement Agreements, Premarital and Postmarital Agreements, Contracts, Settlement Offers, to name a few.
• Assistance in choosing a process: If you are unsure what process is right for you, I can help you design a process that works for you.
I encourage you to make use of my assistance as is most helpful to you. We can work together to create a plan that best serves your needs and your budget.
